About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Bundesliga encounter, SC Freiburg edged past Werder Bremen with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to an early goal from Jan-Niklas Beste (GAP +3.4%). This result was somewhat anticipated, as Freiburg had been showing solid form in recent weeks, while Werder Bremen struggled to find consistency. The decisive moment came early in the match, with Beste finding the back of the net in the 13th minute. His goal was a testament to Freiburg's ability to capitalize on their chances, as they managed to maintain this slender lead despite being reduced to ten men in the second half. Johan Manzambi (GAP +0.1%) received a red card in the 52nd minute, putting Freiburg under significant pressure for the remainder of the match. From a tactical standpoint, Freiburg's defense, marshaled by Matthias Ginter (GAP +3.4%), held firm against Bremen's attempts to equalize. Christian Gunter (GAP +2.0%) also played a crucial role in maintaining the team's defensive shape. On the other side, Werder Bremen's Marco Friedl (GAP +4.0%) was a standout performer, but his efforts were not enough to break down Freiburg's resilient backline. Both teams made strategic substitutions, with Freiburg introducing Yuito Suzuki to bolster their midfield, while Bremen brought on Samuel Mbangula and Felix Agu in an attempt to inject fresh energy into their attack. However, these changes did not alter the outcome, as Freiburg's disciplined defensive display ensured they secured all three points. This victory sees SC Freiburg continue their push up the Bundesliga table, building on their recent positive form. For Werder Bremen, the defeat highlights the need for greater attacking cohesion as they aim to climb out of the lower half of the standings. The result leaves Freiburg in a promising position as they look to challenge for a European spot, while Bremen must regroup and address their inconsistencies to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
